[Revoltech Review] Revoltech#123 Rathalos Swordsman

Hello everyone, It's me again Signum with the super, SUPER slow updates :). I know I haven't take my blogging seriously, but trust me I was :).

Today we're going to have a review about one of the best thing anyone have created, I might have been a little biased here. It is Revoltech (I hate this line of figure) #123, Hunter Swordsman or Rathalos Blademaster Armor to be exact, the box seriously didn't do the figure any justice. It's preposterous how can they did it, I mean Hunter armor looks nowhere near Rathalos Armor. I can't imagine anything other than that Kaiyodo didn't plan to release any other armor beside this one, I hope my prediction is off. Revoltech isn't really my choice of figure line, I have pros and cons about them but I'll explain it later on the review.

Alright, Rathalos Armor was originated from Monster Hunter series, this one is from Monster Hunter 3 (http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Rathalos_Armor_(Blade)(MH3)) and as you might know, Rathalos is the anchor monster and probably the most iconic one from the series. He was featured in most of the main quests and has never misses any of them (the game). Even when most of the other monsters were replaced, the King will always be there, watching and breathing fucking fireballs into your face.

Rathalos's Wyvern revoltech was also released few months before the Hunter. Of course being a huge MHfag I am I have no choice but to get him. Apparently though, I haven't had the time to do the photoshoot or writing his review.

Okay, enough with the chit-chatting and let's move on to the figure itself.

The Box

As you can see, The box is a standard Yamaguchi Revoltech box with the clear plastic on the front to show you the content of the box. Upon the opening you will see that the blister is full, I am glad that they didn't waste the space.

The contents:

• Rathalos Hunter Armor figure
• Blazing Falchion Sword and Shield set
• Rathalos Firesword/Red Wing Greatsword (The Azure version gets Shiny Rathalos Sword)
• 4 sets of hands, including the default closed ones
• A dash effect
• A revoltech container
• A shitty stand

I hate Revoltech's stand, they're stupid, they can't hold anything properly and they're wobbly. Moreover, the hole where you're supposed to insert the stand into on the figure is too small so you can't get it to the stand. I also hate revoltech joints but I will get into the details later.

The Figure

WOW, that is my initial thought of having this box unpacked. The figure is great, the proportion is good, the color is perfect and it does looks a little plasticky, but the rustic looks makes up for it. I hate revoltech's joint, it is proven to hold it's pose, but it makes it hard to balance, I have a hard time making him stand on his own feet. Probably my worn-down studio has a thing or two to do with it but I still hate them.

While posing with Blazing Falchion is proven to be easy, posing him with the Firesword is a fucking chore. At this point I don't know if you have to use the fixed hands to hold him, so I use the semi-opened palms (because that's what shown on the box) and it loses it grip's easily.

After the flaws though I can't stop myself for loving this figure, it's a piece of art and you MHfags should get it.

The Details

Looking at the figure up close, you'll see why I love revoltech, their paintjob is kind of messy but it's exactly what this figure needs. Messy look to portray his wild, jagged side of him, he looks fucking awesome with all the rust and the scales kind of roughly painted. Not to mention they even detailed the pouch on his belt which takes it up a notch.

The details on the weapons are surprisingly accurate, I love how they did the blazing falchion's gradation. All I can hope is for it to glow a little just like the real deal but I guess I am asking too much.

The Articulations

Being a revoltech figure, I can guaranteed that it has amazing articulations, they've been in this business for years now and I've bought a lot of their figures and they've been all good to me. Sure the joints is a fucking pain in the arse but I can live with that. Only because this is a monster hunter figure. The articulation, as expected is great! You'll have revolver joints everywhere, both hands and feet can be folded to the maximum point, the head is on ball joint, his face is on a ball joint, his shoulderpad, his tail, his side skirts and even the Firesword connector is on ball joint. The head can move up and down, and the entire neck can be slided forward for more versatile poses.

I'll start it off with some box-art pose.

He can cross his arms easily and it does what it did on the box, good job, although he can't really stand on his own so I used figma stand to support it. Fuck you revo stand I hate you even more than your joints.

With the firesword, it's unsurprisingly heavy so I have to support it again with the figma stand so it won't fall off the grip. I can't even hold it for few seconds on the second pose, while having the firesword makes finding the center of gravity easier, it makes balancing far harder than it should be since it won't stay in place, the sword.

I can't really get the pose right with the blazing falchion since somehow my left hand hole can't fit the sword's handle. I don't know why but it seems like that it is a defect, the hole was bent and the handle can't be pushed through it.

     

He can also be posed holding all the weapons together, which is awesome and relieving at the same time since you can make the firesword act as a third feet to support the figure.

The Price

The figure is retailed with 3480 JPY from Kaiyodo, most online stores will charge you something around 2800-3200 Yen for the piece minus the shipping fee. I pre-ordered mine on the local seller for 400k IDR which is roughly about 3800 JPY including shipping fee. Not a bad price since I saw a lot of other seller sell it at higher prices. I am really happy since I get more than what I've paid or at least that's what I thought.

Final Verdict

You probably guessed that I will give perfect scores to all of the points right? YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT MY FRIEND!!

Well alright, I'll give you a detailed hopefully unbiased scores below.

• The Package: 9/10 The package is done nicely, and it was great. The blister is full and the compartment is safe, the only thing bugging me about the package is it doesn't have any form of protection outside, no tape whatsoever to seal this package so we won't know if it has been tampered with.
• The Figure: 10/10 NOT BIASED the figure itself is amazing, it's molded perfectly and a lot has been done to the figure to conceal the joints, like the elbow pad, it has a separated pieces to cover over the joint so you won't see it as an action figure, more like a poseable statue, which I find it to be amazing.
• The Details: 9.5/10 I love to give it perfect score, but some of the paints aren't done correctly, the dash effect isn't fully painted (this is sooo minor yet I am so annoyed) and the steel parts feel a little bit plasticky (again, minor stuff), but other than that, it's all great!
• The Articulations: 9/10 The only thing preventing the articulations from getting a perfect score is the fucking revoltech joints, it's a good thing if you want to pose since it holds perfectly but when you want to do a specific pose, it'll give you a hard, tough, sticky, annoying, pain in the ass time.
• The Price: 11/10 Yeah, it's too cheap for itself, no complains though.

There you have it, the full review of Rathalos Armor, I hope I didn't missed anything important, if I do, please tell me on the comments. Sometimes I just feel like I haven't write enough, I don't think I write enough information for you guys, but I hope the next review will be better than this one.
